The Rev. Peter Gachira has been our priest and pastor since September 2020.

Since joining full-time ministry, Peter has served as a Vicar, an Associate priest, an evangelist and as an archdeaconry youth Organizer working with teens and young adults. He also served as a Clinical Pastoral Education intern and a Chaplain volunteer at Inova Alexandria Hospital, providing spiritual and pastoral care to both patients and members of staff. His experiences as a Pastor, Evangelist and a Chaplain have helped him to develop strong leadership skills, a desire to accept full responsibility for his decisions and the desire to challenge himself to develop his skills and abilities further.

Peter's educational background includes a Masters of Arts in Religion and Interdisciplinary studies from Virginia Theological Seminary, USA; a Bachelor of Arts in Theology and Pastoral studies from Pan Africa Christian University in Nairobi and a Diploma in Applied Theology from Msalato Theological College in Dodoma, Tanzania.

As a leader, he enjoys working with people, solving problems and improving the community. He loves sports and enjoys playing and watching soccer games and basketball. He also enjoys travelling, visiting new places, road drives, watching movies, reading and talking about politics. He plans to learn other sports such as golf, swimming and now ice hockey.

In collaboration with the community of Christ’s ambassadors at St. John's, he strives to develop deep and authentic relationships that reflect the love of Christ in order to offer hope to those around us and help them meet their needs.
