Janice and Prim give presentation of the Christan Horizons Global projects in Assela, Ethiopia at St. John's When
Janice LeGresley of J. & B. Spools, taught three children, in her sewing class
she had no idea how this would change her life. The children's mother has been
a strong supporter of the group Christian Horizons Global (CHG). When she learned that CHG wished to start a
sewing programme in Assela,
Ethiopia she
saw Janice as an ideal person to teach. She recommended Janice to CGH. Janice was excited to be able to help with
this very worthwhile project. It was
suggested that she take another person along with her as it might be lonely to
be there about a month on her own. Janice
immediately thought of her sewing buddy, Prim Lowry, of St. John's and the two spent four weeks teaching sewing in Ethiopia in January and February of 2011. The sewing project was successful and now
Janice and Prim are heading back to Assela on their second mission to teach
more sewing classes but also to teach canning to a group of women. Since tomatoes in that area are a good crop,
this will help the women to develop a cottage industry. The local hotel will buy
their canned tomatoes.

A team from St. John's travelled to Guatemala in July 2011. This was our 4th mission team to go to Parramos, Guatemala.
When NASA launches a space shuttle, there are three essential objectives that must be met if the mission is to be considered a success. The shuttle must reach its intended location; it must complete its assigned tasks (sometimes overcoming unexpected challenges)….and it must return home safely.
In the same way, we are delighted to report that the 2011 Guatemala Mission was an unqualified success!! Our entire experience was so surrounded by the evidence of God’s grace! He so clearly went ahead of everything we did…sometimes even holding back storm clouds until a job was done…and enabled us to accomplish all the work He had set before us.
Thank you to everyone who so faithfully supported us with your prayers…. they were more effective than you can imagine!
On October 14, 2011 the team shared our stories and our pictures with people at St. John’s and the community of Lakefield…A team has been booked to travel to Guatemala in 2013. Watch for details!!

On the morning of Saturday Marchl 30, 2013 a wonderful Easter Market was held at our church. This free market provided fresh food from 9:00 am to 11:00 am to families who pre-registered for this event. Also available was a free café that served coffee along with muffins, tea biscuits, and fresh fruit. Amazingly, by noon, almost families from our community had received a hamper of food that they selected from a variety of fresh vegetables and fruit, milk, cheese, yogurt, buns, and meat. The hampers were a blessing to the families receiving them as the rising cost of fresh foods such as produce and dairy products has been difficult for many who are finding it hard in these unsettling financial times.
This event was organized by Lakefield Youth Unlimited in
cooperation with St. John the Baptist Anglican Church and the Lakefield
Food Bank.

An average of 52 households/week accessed our Food Bank in February 2013.

non-perishable food items to the Church and deposit them in the basket at
