Lakefield Community Food Bank

The Lakefield Community Food Bank is a ministry of St. John's. This food bank makes food available to those in need who live in Lakefield, Selwyn Township, or Douro-Dummer Township. It is open each Tuesday from 9:00 am to 10:30 am.

In 2016 we helped provide food for an average of 114 people a week. On average, each week these guests came from 55 households in our community. There were an average of 32 children per week in these households.  On December 20, 2016 there were 80 households that came to the food bank and received food for a Christmas meal.

A number of people from St. John's and other community members volunteer each week at the food bank. At 7:30 a.m. on Tuesdays, volunteers start to prepare food and set up tables of food for our guests to select the food they can use. The food bank is open to the public on Tuesdays from 9:00 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. Milk and other items as needed are obtained each week from Kawartha Food Share. R J's Fresh Produce donates fresh fruit and vegetables each week. Bread products and eggs are available each week. Cheese and peanut butter are available once a month.

The Food Bank welcomes donations from individuals and organizations. Non-perishable goods (e.g., peanut butter, soup, spaghetti, macaroni, spaghetti sauce, canned tomatoes, canned beans, canned vegetables, canned pasta, canned fruit, cans of juice, rice, cereal) are in constant demand. Donations of non-perishable food items may be placed in the barrel at the Regent Street entrance of the Church.

Many people also donate fresh food items for our guests. If you wish to donate fresh food items, please contact the Church Office (705-652-8302) to make the necessary arrangements for delivery.

Money donations are very welcome.
