Lakefield After School Program

The Lakefield After-School Program has three sessions during the school year. A group of children (grades 2-8) come after school to St. John's once weekly from 3:30 until 5:00 pm.

The program is run cooperatively with Lakefield Youth Unlimited and St. John's. St. John's provides funding, space for the program and volunteer help. Lakefield Youth Unlimited provides the organizational leadership, volunteers and community interface.

Each week, the program starts with a snack/social time for 15 minutes. This is followed by one-on-one tutoring with adult volunteers, many of whom are retired teachers and a "God Talk" time. The final part of the program is a game or craft. The parents are expected to pick the children up at 5pm.

The children enjoy a safe, nurturing, fun-filled environment and have an introduction to Christian values in the "God Talk" time. Academic assistance is provided and relationships are strengthened, with some of the children expressing an interest in learning more about God. The faithful attendance of the students and the desire of more children to attend, demonstrates the value of the program.
