Rev. Gachira is required to self-isolate at the Rectory for a minimum of 14 days. During this time, we will need to provide any support Peter will need as he cannot leave the Rectory Property.
Ann Jakins will be providing future details on how we as a congregation can provide Peter with daily prepared meals. As well his fridge and cupboards will be stocked with the foods he has identified to us.
Rev Peter has provided the following Bio to share, and a picture of himself.
Let the excitement begin.
Grace to you and Peace from God our Father and our Saviour Jesus Christ.
I take this opportunity to introduce myself to you. My name is Peter Gachira Wanjiku, a priest from the Anglican Church of Kenya, Diocese of Nairobi. I currently live in the United States of America where I have been studying and serving as the Vicar of the International Anglican Congregation at Immanuel Church on-the-Hill, working with the Kenyan Community in Washington DC Metro area.
I would like to thank Bishop Riscylla Shaw and the Parish Selection Committee for appointing me to this Position. I’m very excited about putting all that I have learned into use as I begin the journey to becoming your next Incumbent. I must however confess that the thought of leaving my mother, my friends and a place I’ve called home for the last five years has not been easy, but being in a worshipping community sent to love, live and lead like Jesus, I feel I have taken the first step towards achieving my goals but I know I have a long way to go.
Since joining the full-time ministry, I have served as a Vicar, an Associate priest, an evangelist and as an archdeaconry youth Organizer working with Teens and young adults. I also served as Clinical Pastoral Education intern and chaplain volunteer at Inova Alexandria Hospital, providing spiritual and pastoral care to both patients and members of staff. My experiences as a Pastor, evangelist and a Chaplain have given me good leadership abilities, learning to take full responsibility and to challenge myself.
My educational background includes a Masters of Arts in Religion and Interdisciplinary studies from Virginia Theological Seminary, USA; a Bachelor of Arts in Theology and Pastoral studies from Pan Africa Christian University in Nairobi and a Diploma in Applied Theology from Msalato Theological College in Dodoma, Tanzania.
As a leader I like working with people, solving problems and improving the community. I love sports and I enjoy playing and watching soccer games and basketball. I also enjoy travelling, visiting new places, road drives, watching movies, reading and talking about politics. I plan to learn other sports such as golf, swimming and now ice hockey.
As I join this community of Christ’s ambassadors, I hope to learn and to contribute towards seeking, engaging and developing deep and authentic relationships that reflects the love of Christ in order to offer hope to those around us and help them meet their needs.
I ask for your prayer as I start travelling by the end of August and upon my arrival, I’ll spend the first two weeks in isolation. I look forward to our time together.
May the Lord bless and keep you.
Yours in Christ’s service,
